Sephora's F&F Sale 10/19/09-11/02/09!

Sephora Friends & Family Sale 2009

Just a heads up my dearest beauty friends, Sephora’s Friends & Family Sale will begin October 19th and end November 2nd, 2009. During the sale, you’ll get 20% off nearly everything with code FF2009. It’s still a few weeks away, so you can expect a reminder post closer to the sale start date!

I definitely recommend shopping sooner rather than later, because this is a sale people wait for. They’re stocking up on their essentials, but they’re also picking up products they’ve waited all year to purchase. Not to mention the holidays are right around the bend… :) Time to start making a list!

Have you already made yours? What’s on your list?

Thanks to @deckchair_cm for the heads up!

Some more fine print/details…

I don’t have all of the official details, but based on last year’s F&F sale, here are quick answers to some common questions I’ve been seeing!

U.S. only? Probably. It’s never been extended outside of the U.S. I don’t know for sure either way, but based on the past, it’s been U.S. only.
In-store, too? Probably not. Again, past sales have been pretty much just online. Sephora employees have a limited amount of F&F sale cards they can give out–to their friends and family–so getting an invite that works in-store is hard to come by.
Hopefully we’ll have more confirmed details about the fine print closer to the sale start date!

Product Review: Revlon Colorstay Lip Liner in Clear #600

Instead of buying a lip liner to go with every color lipstick you have, why not buy a clear lip liner that works with all? I use to always have trouble finding the right lip liner to go with my lipsticks, not only that, but it gets expensive. I was browsing through the makeup isle at my local drug store in hopes to find an affordable lip liner to go with one of my lipsticks and came across this clear lip liner and thought I would give it a try; I am glad that I did! It goes with everything, it has a self-sharpener and it is less than $10! You cannot go wrong with this one. Everytime I wear lipstick, I line my lips with this and it keeps the lipstick from feathering. It is worth a try if you are like me and cannot spend $$$ buying lip liner's to go with every lipstick in your collection.

(I gave it a 4, instead of a 5 because it is a tad bit drying)

Tip: Cracked, dry or peeling lips?

If your lips are cracked, dry or peeling, try exfoliating before applying lip products. After you wash your face, find an extra toothbrush, apply some moisturizer to it, and use it to gently buff your lips (careful not to swallow any of the product).

"A modern feast for the senses. Served in a sleek metal and glass apple bottle, this juicy fragrance combines the scent of apple with a sophisticated blend of exotic flowers and sensual woods. Like the city that inspired it, Be Delicious celebrates individuality with refreshing spirit." I have had this perfume for a long time, I need to start wearing it again. I use it for those casual days, to dinner with friends, movie date, etc. It is a little loud, so one spray works for me. Packaging is cute; looks like a green apple. Lol! Notes: American Apple, Cucumber, Grapefruit, Candid Magnolia, Tuberose, White Muguet, Rose, Violet, Sandalwood, Tender Skin Accord, Blonde Woods, White Amber. Free-spirited. Refreshing. Unique. This is one of my newest perfume's that I own and I just cannot get enough of it! It kind of reminds me of Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. Perfume, it is almost identical to this. It is described to be "a warm and inviting fragrance that captures a playful tumble of white blossoms." "Like a wink from across the room, or a lingering gaze or shy smile ... it's a tempting tease." In other words, it has a pretty scent to it, not too overpowering, you can wear it on any occasion. Notes: Apricot, White Ginger, Fresh Water Blossoms, Himalayan Poppy, Warm Peach. Flirty. Sexy. Inviting. Sample it at your local Sephora today!

Product Review: Urban Decay Lip Primer Potion SPF 15

Overall Rating ( 1 = worst, 5 = best ) 3
Price ( 1 = dirt cheap, 5 = expensive ) 3
Packaging Quality ( 1 = worst, 5 = best ) 5
Would you buy this product again? Yes

This is my first time using a lip primer. I use to just fill in my lips with a lip liner (usually clear) and that would help my lipstick last longer, but it did dry up my lips quite a bit. I decided to give this a try and I am glad that I did. This primer keeps lip color from fading or feathering and it even has SPF 15! It is a roll-up tube with a slanted bullet, just like your typical lipstick! It goes on colorless and lays a silky foundation for your favorite lipstick or even your favorite gloss! It made my lip color truer, but it did not apply as smooth as it claims, it was sort of hard to apply, but still easier than applying lip liner all over your lips. I might repurchase once I run out, we will see.

This product is a mascara base that is suppose to lengthen, volumize, and fortify your lashes. I love Urban Decay's Primer Potion, so I thought this would be just as great. I was wrong. To be honest, it really did not make any difference whatsoever in the appearance of my lashes. I applied an even coat, let it dry for a bit, then applied my normal mascara. It looked exactly the same as when I wear just my normal mascara without even using this primer. I will not be repurchasing this.

This is a "must" have in every one's kit, especially for those with oily lids! It is sheer, it is totally nude, it glides on and then disappears as you spread it around your eyelids. It is an eye prep for smoother, more vibrant shadow and all-day wear, with absolutely no creasing. The only down side is it's genie-like bottle; it sucks! I understand it is part of their marketing tool, but because of it's shape, a lot of product gets lost in there. But it will have to do for now because there is nothing out there even close to this product. Some may compare this to Too Faced Shadow Insurance... But if you have oily lids like me, Too Faced Shadow Insurance will only make it oilier. If you have dry lids, Too Faced Shadow Insurance may work better for you, and it has better packaging being that it is in a squeeze tube. I have said it before, and I will say it again... Eye shadow primer is a must have for smoother, vibrant, and long wearing eye makeup, get yours today!

This product does not have very good reviews, it has horrible reviews, but I did not read the reviews before I purchased it. I usually buy Tresemme's Instant Heat Tamer Spray, but my local Wal-Mart was out of it, so I purchased this one instead. A lot of the reviews say that the nozzle shoot's out like a water gun, that it is sticky, and that it takes a long time to dry. To be honest, I have not experienced any of these! My nozzle does not shoot out like a water gun, it is not sticky at all and I spray it on my hair right after I get out of the shower or before I blow dry so I do not have problems with it not drying fast enough. My hair dries normal and I do not get a frizz ball like some do using this product, but then again, my hair is naturally straight. Would I re-purchase? If my usual Tresemme Instant Heat Tamer Spray is unavailable, I have no problem with repurchasing this, it smells good!

I am not feeling this primer at all! I purchased it because of all the good reviews I read about it and because I love their eye shadow primer potion, but what a big disappointment. It claims to "minimize the look of pores and fine lines to deliver a soft-matte, airbrushed complexions-without the heavy, greasy feel associated with face primers." It did not minimize the look of my pores or fine lines, it did not give me an airbrushed look, instead it gave me a streaky mess when I used it with my liquid foundation. However, it did not feel heavy or greasy. They got one thing right, BUT it does leave a white cast on your face, no bueno.

This stuff is amazing! I would always get my nails done at the nail spa because it was convenient and I did not have to worry about them getting messed up due to it not being completely dry. But with the economy being how it is now, I decided to do my nails myself and save the extra $15-$20 every other week. I would always do my nails in the evening and when I thought it was dry, it really was not, I would wake up to messed up nails. Now that I have Sephora by OPI Drying Drops, it does not do that any more! Yay! After applying your nail polish and top coat, you wait 60 seconds and apply 1-2 drops of Sephora by OPI Drying Drops and it completely dries in less than 5 minutes! Perfect for those who needs to polish and go! As an added bonus, nourishing ingredients, vitamin E and jojoba oil keep nails in top condition. I cannot live without this stuff!

Product Review: StudioTools Eye Contour Brush

Everybody should have this brush in their collection! You can find it at Target for only $1.99 (you can't go wrong with this brush)! This brush, in my opinion, is comparable to the 224 & 226; it fits right in between these two. It's not as fluffy as the 224 and it's not as pointed as the 226. It also reminds me of the Sonia Kashuk Large Crease Brush, but it's not as dense. It's perfect for adding color in the crease or for blending. Go to your nearest Target and check it out!

I love Starflash Finishes from MAC! They are so smooth and easily blendable. One of my favorites right now is Smoke & Diamonds. It is described by MAC as a Frosty Dirty Taupe. I wear it on the lid with Soft Brown on the Crease or I wear it on the lid with Club on the Crease and Knight Divine on the outer-v. If you are into taupe's or grayish shades, this one is a must have in your collection!

If you have tried Monistat as a face primer, this is sort of the same, but better because of the added ingredients. The consistency is the same except for the color. Monistat comes out clear, where as this comes out nude toned, but becomes invisible once applied, it works great on any skintone! You can wear this alone or under makeup! I like the fact that it has Vitamins A & C, Mulberry extract and a dose of Retinol which does help banish pores and "might" even help with my adult acne (remember to use sunscreen with this product)! It takes a few minutes after applied to see your pores actually disappear, but boy does it make a difference! After applying this, my makeup slides seamlessly on my skin and it just blends right in and stays in place for hours! So far, so good!

I got color matched with the shade called, "Dream" at Ulta the other day (for reference, I am an NC35 in MAC's Studio Fix Powder Plus). So far, so good! The only thing about this that I do not like is the brush that it comes with, it is so useless to me! Instead, I use the MAC #190 to apply this foundation. It's statement is true! It does feel ultra-lightweight, non-greasy or powdery upon contact with skin. It glides on and stays on! And I am not even using primer today! I wanted to test how long it stays on my face without primer. It has been over 4 hrs. and it still appears fresh and I have not needed to blot my face (I have combination skin, mostly oily in my t-zone)! The packaging is really cute... It is a transparent purple color, but it is a bit heavy. Hopefully it does not break me out because I am really lovin' it!

This is another brush from MAC that is not a must have in my opinion, for it's price. There are plenty of concealer brushes out there that are wayyy cheaper! You just need a stiff synthetic one and you will be good to go. The #194 is too tiny in my opinion. I mean, it would work great for sudden breakouts, like tiny pimples, but I like one that works great for large area's; #194 may even be a little too small for under eye concealer. This would work great as a lip brush!

I do not see anything special about this brush. It is just your basic foundation brush. You can pick one up just about anywhere for cheaper and it will get the job done (just make sure it is a stiff one and synthetic). I just so happen to collect MAC Brushes and I did not have a basic foundation brush in my collection so I went ahead and picked this one up to use strictly for cream foundation and for applying moisturizers or sun screens. Works great!

This brush I could have done without. It can be used for liquid foundation, powder, cream, etc. I use this brush for cream blush and to highlight. But I hardly pull out my cream blush or hightlighter's so I have been practically looking straight through this brush. =/ But... If you do use cream blushes a lot, this would be a good one for you! Just stipple your brush into the cream blush and then stipple onto your face and then blend. It gives your cheeks just the right amount of product, same concept to highlight. I believe there are a couple dupes of this brush out there if you are looking for a cheaper alternative. This is not a must have brush in my opinion.

The infamous #187 brush aka duo fibre brush aka skunk brush! This brush is very versatile. At first, I used this for my liquid foundation. Then for finishing powder. Now I use this brush strictly for pigmented blushes or MSF's. It picks up just the right amount of product and applies it generously on my cheeks/face. This is a must have BUT there are plenty of dupes out there for this one. ;)

Looking for a MAC Blush Brush? #116! It is a pretty small blush brush (compared to most) which is perfect for my face. The tip of the brush is tapered which is great for blush, bronzer or even highlighting! It is soft and pretty dense, good for those less pigmented blushes. It deposits color with precision and blends well. If you do not own a blush brush, this would be the one to get!

You've been caked!

This is not my usual blog entry, but I had to share this with you all!

Caked is brought to you by three of my closest friend's: Bashua Coleman, Evie Diaz, and Irene Herbst (freshlab). Serving you the best, homemade little cakes in the OC/LA area.

They were inspired by an idea and they wanted to see if they could take it to another level. They are starting off small, but eventually would like to create their own version of a product that could hopefully branch into some of their more innovative and unique ideas... Stay tuned!

This is my favorite brush for liquid foundation! It is made of natural fibres. This soft, round headed brush is ideal for contouring, but I love it for liquid foundation. I just pump one pump of liquid foundation on the back of my hand, stipple the brush into it, then onto my face and then buff it in. This brush blends out foundation perfectly and leaves no streaks or brush marks. It does shed a lot, which does not really bother me at all, but for some, it is a problem; I removed one lippie because of this.

Awww... Fluidline in Blacktrack! This product completes each and every one of my looks. I like to apply this with either the 209, 208 or 263 brush. But I prefer angled brushes like the 208 or 263. It goes on ultra-smooth with a silkier, softer finish. Application is super easy using the 208 or 263; it's a dip-and-stroke action. It is long wearing and smudge-proof. I have had mine for almost a year, it is not exactly dried out, but it is not as creamy as when I first bought it, it still does the job though. I said that I would not re-purchase only because I am curious to try Bobbi Brown's E/L next. But if that does not work out, I will definitely be back for more Fluidline!

Product Review: Aveda Shampure Shampoo & Conditioner

Overall Rating ( 1 = worst, 5 = best ) 4
Price ( 1 = dirt cheap, 5 = expensive ) 4
Packaging Quality ( 1 = worst, 5 = best ) 4

After chopping off nearly 10 inches of hair, I felt like trying out a new shampoo and conditioner other than the ones sold at a drugstore. I came across Aveda; this line is sold at my hair salon that I usually go to so I figured I would give this a try. I picked up Aveda Shampure Shampoo and Condtioner (I saw it in Allure Magazine). This shampoo and conditioner is gentle enough for me to use daily, it is mild but it still lathers up pretty well. It cleanses and fortifies my hair (I have pretty thick, straight hair, that tends to get oily). After using this for about a month, I have noticed that if I go a day of without washing my hair, it does not become oily as usual. This is the first shampoo I can skip a hair washing and not worry about getting the oily roots, and it even leaves my hair smelling fresh, even after day two. It makes my hair smooth and shiny! One thing I do not like, is it's smell... It is not too bad, I guess it is because it does not smell fruity, the kind of shampoo's and conditioner's that I am use to, instead it smells sort of euphoric (nothing wrong with that). Lol! It is not too expensive, it is worth the price, but I think I will still search for a new shampoo and conditioner after this.

This is one of my favorite highlight color's! MAC describes it as a Soft Muted Creamy-Beige (Satin). It works well on my skintone - NC35/40. It looks like it's a matte finish which makes it perfect for when I do a smokey eye look or a shimmery eye look. If you do a lot of smokey/shimmery eye looks, this is a must have!

Woodwinked is my "go to" for neutral looks! MAC describes it as a Warm Antique Gold (Veluxe Pearl). It does not come up orange on me, like it does for some. I use Woodwinked all over my lid, Soft brown in my crease (to blend it out) and then Shroom or Nylon as my highlight color; last I throw on some black liner and I'm good to go!

For reference, I am an NC35/40.

Product Review: MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus

I love MAC's Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation (I am an NC40)! I have been using this since my high school years! I love how it is a powder and foundation all in one! It makes the application time quick when I am pressed for time. The only downfall is that sometimes it can look cakey or too powdery, but I found that using Fix+ as a finishing spray makes it look more natural and just a little dewy. It also depends on what brush you use to apply it. I use to use the 183 which gave me full coverage, but now I love using it with the 182 which gives a medium/buildable coverage, and I also love how soft the 182 feels on my face! :) The price for this is somewhat reasonable and I will continue to re-purchase until I find something "better".

Product Review: Make Up For Ever HD Loose Powder

I use this to set my MUFE HD Invisible Cover Foundation. It slightly mattifies my skin but it does leave a slight white film, you just need to buff it in more/longer and that will solve the problem. It is 100% mineral silica powder, so it helps soften the appearance of imperfections. It helps my makeup last all day (8am - 5pm) and I do not have to blot my face (I have combination skin), it is still fresh at the end of the day! It is pretty pricey, but well worth it! I have had mine for over a year and I still have plenty left (although I do not use it every single day). I said that I would not re-purchase only because I would like to try MAC's Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder next, but if that does not work out, I will be back for more of this stuff!

I am an NC40 in MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus (I am not sure about the liquid) and I use 123 in MUFE HD Foundation. By far, this is the best liquid foundation that I have used and I am on my second bottle! Everything else that I've tried feels too heavy/thick. I like the coverage, how it looks in person and in picture's. I have used the 187, 109 and Sonia Kashuk's Blending Sponge to apply the foundation and love them all! After application, I top it off with MUFE HD Microfinish Powder and I am good to go! It is pretty pricey, but to me, it is well worth it's price. I will continue to re-purchase until I find something "better".

This is one of my favorite brushes from MAC. It is limited edition but some stores may still carry this, as well as the CCO's. It is super soft and it is amazing at buffing out powder foundation. It gives me an air brushed look. I use it with my MAC Studio Fix Powder. It does shed a bit, but not as much as my 109 or 187. And it did start to splay, but to fix that, I just keep it in that little plastic container that it came with and it helps it keep it's shape. So do not throw the plastic container away! :)

I was so excited about trying this new product from MAC, being that MAC has never had anything like this. I heard so much rave from MUA's and others about how amazing it is so I was sold. But for me, this does not really work as well as it does for others. I have tried applying this before makeup and I have tried applying this after makeup... I can still see my expression lines! They may not be as visible, which is a good thing, but I was just hoping that this would erase it completely. I'm thinking about returning it.

I am not too keen about MAC's Skin Care line, it is a hit or miss for me. But I heard and read a lot of great reviews about this product so I decided to give it a try. It really does help when my skin feels all bumpy from black heads; it let's new skin shine through so your skins bright and glowy! You gotta' exfoliate! I try to use this at least once a week.

Since I am in my mid 20's, I thought I should start taking extra good care of my skin (should have started a long time ago). Ladies... We 'gotta start wearing eye cream now so that we do not get wrinkles later! Lol. This is my very first eye cream. I chose this because the SA at Sephora said that this was a good product to "prevent" under eye circles, fine lines and wrinkles. Honestly, I do not see or feel a difference because I do not have under eye circles, fine lines and wrinkles... But I sure hope that this product will prevent it! Instead, it moisturizes really well (wish it had SPF). I use this morning and night, under my eyes and on my lids.

I just added toner to my skin care routine. I think toner is important because it helps get rid of whatever dirt is left from the first two steps (makeup remover and facial cleanser). You would be surprised to see what makeup and gunk's still stuck on your face by looking at the cotton ball! It also helps make my moisturizer sink in better. It smells delicious and it is not as harsh as some of the other toners that I have tried in the past. Good stuff!

I have been using this product for over a month now and I can honestly say that it has definitely minimized my breakouts, large pores and lightened my scars. I use this morning and night. This cleanser does not really take the makeup off, nor is it good to use around your eye area, so that is why makeup remover is a must! Instead, I feel the glycolic acid tingling and rebuilding my skin; getting rid of scars and what not. I just recently purchased a few more item's from this line: Bioclear Lotion and Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant SPF 30. I am so excited to try these out! I will write a review on these after a month.

This is an inexpensive, yet an effective eye makeup remover that I have tried so far, I am on my 2nd bottle! It removes eye makeup with ease (no pulling or tugging of the eye). It does leave an oily residue but that is what helps remove the eye makeup without torturing your eyes! I just shake the bottle to activate the product, pour some on a cotton ball and lightly rub off my eye makeup. I then follow with my normal skin care routine (facial cleanser, toner, moisturizer).

I love this color! Great for spring time! I know that this is sold out almost everywhere but there are a few out there that are pretty similar but nothing exactly like this that I have seen. The application is "ok". It takes 3 coats for a perfect look. If you are looking for a dupe, try OPI's Hey Get in Lime or China Glaze's Dear Audrey.
